Do you have a sustainability success story? Enter the Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Awards

Water businesses with a focus on sustainability are being encouraged to enter the Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Awards.

Research by Sustainability Victoria found previous entrants have demonstrated increased energy efficiencies and reduced bills through their sustainability projects.

GWMWater won the Environmental Justice category last year for its work with local Dja Dja Wurrung clans, which paved the way for the construction of the 1300 kilometre South West Loddon Pipeline.

Large portions of the pipeline cut through Dja Dja Wurrung Country, upheaving the land and unearthing the history underneath.

Dja Dja Wurrung field representatives undertook nearly 20,000 hours of paid work, identifying nearly 500 cultural heritage sites. A memorandum of understanding was developed as a result, laying the foundation for a cooperative partnership.

GWMWater Environmental Officer Dean Robertson said it was an obvious choice to enter the awards.

“The recognition provided a great platform to demonstrate our project, and we’ve used it as a case study in other business submissions,” he said.

Sustainability Victoria helps entrants throughout the nomination stage, and finalists and winners are provided with promotional collateral like media releases, social media graphics and professional photos.

Sustainability Victoria CEO Stan Krpan said past entrants had reported better staff morale, improved customer feedback and stronger community relationships as a result of their involvement in the awards.

“Our 2018 finalists and winners told us that the awards process improved engagement and marketing opportunities at every stage,” Krpan said.

“From the time they completed their entries, through to the announcement of finalists, the prestigious ceremony to announce the winners and beyond, entrants report a really positive experience.”

He said the awards give businesses, schools, organisations and community groups the chance to not only demonstrate their sustainability success, but to promote it.

“Now is the time for any group doing good sustainability work to highlight their sustainability through the Premier’s Sustainability Awards,” Krpan said.

Entries close at 5pm Thursday, 13 June 2019.
