WaterAid and AWA WA Branch partnership going strong

WaterAid celebrated five years as the charity partner of the Australian Water Association’s (AWA) Western Australia Water Awards Dinner on 25 October. The famous wine wall lucky dip was run by the WA WaterAid Committee and successfully raised $5000 for WaterAid thanks to the generosity of attendees.

The fundraising efforts were given an exciting surprise boost by Steel Mains, with CEO Dean Connell pledging on stage at the awards to donate to WaterAid for every Steel Mains LinkedIn follower gained on the night. This clever campaign resulted in $1000 being donated to WaterAid thanks to the generosity of Steel Mains, who are members of both AWA and WaterAid.

The WA Committee has been able to see wonderful growth in awareness of and support for WaterAid among the WA water community over the past few years, building on the great work undertaken by past committee members. Ongoing partnership with and support from AWA has been integral in this journey.

Together we have been making change, and working towards ensuring that everyone, everywhere has access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.

Over the 2018/2019 financial year, globally WaterAid helped millions of people. This included providing 385,000 household members with clean water, 182,000 school students with decent toilets, and 991,000 people with good hygiene through health care centres. Water service management was improved in 25 urban utilities.

On 28 October, the lucky raffle winners were drawn from the hundreds of tickets sold at the WA Awards Dinner. The winners were:

  1. Kyllie Whitehead (dinner and a show at Friends Restaurant)
  2. Aisha Chalmers (high tea at The Westin)
  3. Mike Murrey (Gourmet Escape in the valley family pass)
  4. Fabiana Tessele (Gourmet Escape in the valley family pass)
  5. Aisha Chalmers (two bottles of Trevelen Farm wine)

An exciting announcement was made at the awards regarding the future of the WA WaterAid Committee, with Renee Blandin handing over the role of Committee Chair to Lisa Chan, SUEZ Engineering Manager WA. Renee and the committee will continue to be active in WA under the leadership of Lisa and Deputy Chair Kate Bowker (Water Corporation).

The WA WaterAid Committee would like to thank Kyllie Whitehead (AWA WA Branch Manager), the AWA WA Branch and YWP Committees, and the following donors for their support of the wine wall and raffle.
