Australian technology provides Vietnamese school with safe drinking water

The Australian Water Association (AWA) has facilitated its 13th drinking water project in Vietnam as part of the Australian Government’s program to increase access to safe drinking water through adoption of Australian innovation and expertise.

Supported by the Australian Government, the Government of Vietnam and Informa Markets, the project uses advanced, low-cost water treatment technology provided by Evoqua Water Solutions and includes ultrafiltration membrane technology supplied by SkyJuice™ Foundation Inc.

The treatment technology was independently verified by ALS Laboratories to ensure compliance with Vietnamese drinking water guidelines, and AMS provided ultrasonic metres to allow for real time measurement of water consumption.

The project was launched last November by AWA President Carmel Krogh, Informa Markets CEO and representatives from the Khanh Hoa Peoples Committee and Cam Thanh Bac Commune People’s Committees, as well as the Cam Thanh Bac Primary School’s principal, teachers and students.

The launch gained a lot of media attention in the Cam Thanh Bac local news, Lao Dong national Vietnamese newspaper, Khanh Hoa Television, and DFAT Vietnam’s social media.

The water treatment system now provides up to 10,000 L of clean drinking water to 800 school children and teachers at Cam Thanh Bac Primary School in Cam Lam district, Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam.

AWA’s program to increase access to safe drinking water through technology innovations now provides over 150,000 L of safe drinking water per day across 13 rural communes – enough drinking water to meet the needs of over 70,000 people.

The Australian Water Association would like to thank the Australian Government for support of its international program, which you can read more about here.
