Making better decisions and challenging unconscious bias

Recently the Board and Strategic Advisory Council of the Australian Water Association (AWA) participated in a workshop led by consulting firm, Diversity Partners on challenging unconscious bias.

Diversity Partners is a highly-regarded consulting firm that has worked with more than 200 organisations to help progress their diversity and inclusion goals, including Melbourne Water, Unitywater, South East Water, Barwon Water, and North East Water. They also collaborated with the Water Services Association of Australia to produce this white paper in 2017.

The workshop they hosted for the AWA was called Better Decision-Making: Challenging Unconscious Bias. Key learnings were the different ways that unconscious bias can impact decisions – whether that’s hiring or promotion decisions, or general business decisions we make every day.

Linked to our Channeling Change program, we challenge all our members to understand more about unconscious bias, and to actively work to promote more diversity at all levels of the workforce.

To help you channel change, Diversity Partners is offering members of the Australian Water Association a discounted price for workshops delivered by the end of the year and they will also donate 5% of the fee to the ‘buy a bale’ program to help our Australian farmers.
